BAMENDA, August 28, 2024 – The North West Region's vibrant youth community came together for the Regional Youth Sports Jamboree, a highly anticipated event that concluded with a ceremony officiated by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou. Held at the Military Stadium in Bamenda, the jamboree was organized by the Cameroon National Youth Council (CNYC) North West Regional Bureau and featured a range of sporting activities aimed at fostering unity and encouraging positive youth engagement.
The event drew participation from young people across the region, who competed in various sports, including football, amputee football, and traditional games. The highlight of the jamboree was the football tournament, where Ngoketunjia emerged victorious, defeating Momo 2-1 in a thrilling final. Ngoketunjia's triumph earned them a cash prize of over 1 million francs CFA and a trophy, marking a significant achievement for the team.
Minister's Call for Exemplary Youth
In his address, Minister Mounouna Foutsou emphasized the critical role of moral, civic, and entrepreneurial education in shaping the future of the nation's youth. He urged the participants to embody exemplary behavior and develop a strong fighting spirit, which are essential for personal and social integration. The Minister also highlighted the importance of the National Civil Immigration Program, encouraging the youths to take full advantage of the opportunities it offers for their growth and success.
"The future of our nation lies in the hands of our youth," Foutsou stated. "It is through education, discipline, and entrepreneurship that you will not only succeed individually but also contribute to the development of our country."
A Call for Peace and Collaboration
CNYC North West Region President, Mekom Samuel Taleh, echoed the Minister's sentiments, stressing the need for peace, collaboration, and respect for the laws of the land. He urged the youth to seize the opportunities provided by the government, particularly in the area of entrepreneurship, to build sustainable futures for themselves and their communities.
"We must work together for the peace and development of our region," Taleh said. "Our youth are the backbone of this effort, and their active participation in government initiatives is crucial."
Recognizing Excellence and Fostering Hope
The jamboree also served as a platform to recognize outstanding participants. Bache Ihimbru received an award for his exceptional contributions to community development, underscoring the event's focus on not just sportsmanship but also civic responsibility.
In a show of unity and optimism, the President of CNYC Ngoketunjia, in his closing remarks, called for national integration and peaceful coexistence. He emphasized that cooperation and calm are vital for achieving long-term peace and development in the region.
The event attracted over 1,000 young participants, all eager to return to their academic pursuits with renewed energy and determination. The Minister's presence and the visible government support for youth initiatives have significantly bolstered the confidence of the region's youth, who now look forward to a future filled with promise and potential.
