Yaounde, Cameroon - April 10, 2024 - A heartbreaking turn of events has unfolded for Cameroon's women's handball team. The team, runners-up at the recent African Cup of Nations in Senegal, has been disqualified from the Olympic qualification tournament due to visa complications.
Visa Issues Lead to Replacement
According to the International Handball Federation (IHF), Cameroon failed to fulfill the necessary visa requirements to travel to Hungary, where the qualification tournament is being held. This infraction of IHF Competition Regulations resulted in the IHF Executive Committee's decision to award Cameroon's spot to Great Britain. The tournament schedule will remain unchanged.
Africa Loses a Contender
This development leaves Angola as the sole African representative in the women's handball competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Cameroon's absence is a significant blow, as they were strong contenders having secured a runner-up finish at the continental championship.
