Issa Tchiroma Denounces Massive Election Fraud
[GAROUA, Oct 15] — Cameroon’s presidential race entered a critical phase Monday night as opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary delivered a defiant national address denouncing what he described as “an organized falsification of the people’s will.” The speech came amid mounting evidence of intimidation, arrests, and attempts to rewrite signed procès-verbaux (PVs) after counting had ended.

According to reports from FSNC coordinators and regional observers, authentic PVs posted at polling stations differ sharply from those being circulated by ELECAM at departmental levels. In some localities, officials have been accused of substituting or altering results to reverse Tchiroma’s apparent victory.
“Authentic PVs established at polling stations are now being contradicted by copies produced in administrative offices,” Tchiroma said in his televised message. “This is unacceptable and undermines the legitimacy of the election.”
Coordinated Manipulation Alleged Across Regions
In Douala, the FSNC coordinator for the 5th district was reportedly arrested after challenging what he called “open fraud.”
In Kolofata, local officials said they were offered bribes of up to 30 million FCFA to surrender original PVs showing Tchiroma leading overwhelmingly. “They even filled the forms in pencil,” said one FSNC official now in hiding.
In Yaoundé’s Ngoulmekong, observers documented ballot envelopes containing multiple Biya ballots — “two to four per envelope,” according to a scrutineer’s statement. Meanwhile, in Bafoussam, the departmental commission initially recorded 79.79% for Tchiroma and 13% for Biya before pressure mounted to alter figures.
Tchiroma’s Message to Institutions and the Judiciary
Tchiroma called directly on ELECAM, territorial administrators, and magistrates to resist political orders and uphold their constitutional duty.
“Your role is not to protect opaque procedures but to safeguard the sovereign voice of the people,” he said. “If the PVs differ, the question must be asked: who falsified them, and on what evidence?”
He warned that any proclamation based on falsified documents “will not be recognized by the people” and appealed to the judiciary to suspend all central tabulations pending verification of field reports.
Violence, Threats, and Growing Unrest
Field reports obtained by Cameroon Concord confirm arbitrary arrests, military intimidation, and attempted suppression of local FSNC monitors.
In Bafoussam, angry crowds gathered near the departmental headquarters after allegations that results were being rewritten overnight. In the Far North, witnesses say agents of ELECAM and RDPC officials were intercepted carrying modified result sheets under escort.
One regional source told Cameroon Concord:
“They know Biya lost. The reports from security services themselves confirm it. What is happening now is a cover-up.”
Tchiroma’s Appeal for Calm and Oversight
Despite the tension, Tchiroma called on his supporters to remain calm and vigilant. He urged international observers not to stay silent in the face of “manifest falsification.”
“You can delay the recognition of the truth,” he declared, “but you cannot erase it.”
He invited civil society, churches, unions, and independent media to “demand transparency and loyalty in the counting and proclamation of results.”
Cameroon at a Crossroads
This is the second major address from Issa Tchiroma since the October 12 vote, which preliminary tallies show him winning by a landslide across six regions and in most diaspora centers.
Analysts describe this phase as the “moment of truth” — when the battle moves from polling stations to institutions.
If confirmed, Tchiroma’s victory would end Paul Biya’s 43-year reign, but resistance within the regime appears to be hardening. Government insiders describe growing divisions over how to respond.
For now, Cameroon remains on edge — a nation suspended between truth and manipulation, between hope and history.
