PRÉSIDENTIELLES 2025 | Shewa David Felicitates Issa Tchiroma, Warns ELECAM Against Tampering
BAMENDA (Cameroon Concord | Political Desk) — In a major post-election development, Shewa David, former militant of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) and current president of the Parti de la Libération Démocratique (PLD), has congratulated Issa Tchiroma Bakary on what he calls a “crushing and historic victory” in Cameroon’s October 12 presidential election.

In an official statement released Tuesday night, Shewa David hailed the electorate’s “sovereign choice” and thanked God for “liberating this nation for a new beginning.” His message, shared widely across social media, underscores growing momentum behind Issa Tchiroma’s self-declared victory — and mounting pressure on ELECAM to respect the truth of the ballot box.
“I want to celebrate God for having liberated this nation for a new breath of life,” he said. “My distinguished congratulations to His Excellency President Issa Tchiroma Bakary. History has been written and dated in 2025.”
A Stark Warning to ELECAM
The PLD leader, whose own presidential candidacy was controversially disqualified by ELECAM under claims of “double candidature,” issued a direct and uncompromising warning to the electoral body.
“ELECAM must be very, very careful,” he declared. “We are fully aware of the fraud you are attempting in the NOSO. Do not even try it.”
Shewa David accused regime-linked actors of manipulating results in the North-West and South-West Regions, regions ravaged by years of conflict and voter suppression.
He cited the case of Ndu Subdivision in the North-West, where ELECAM reportedly credited 15,000 votes to Paul Biya — a number he described as “statistically absurd.”
“All polling stations in Ndu were merged into just three — Ndu Council, Mbiye, and Ntomboh. In a war zone under ghost-town lockdowns, how could 15,000 people walk through insecurity to vote for the same man who declared war on them nine years ago?” he asked.
A Call for Calm — and Respect for the People’s Will
Despite his anger at ongoing manipulation, Shewa David appealed to Cameroonians to remain calm while awaiting the Constitutional Council’s final proclamation. Yet his message was unequivocal — the people’s choice is clear, and it must be honored.
“We love peace. We are Cameroonians with equal rights. Give President Issa Tchiroma what rightfully belongs to him,” he said. “We will not allow what happened to my father, His Excellency Ni John Fru Ndi, in 1992 to happen again.”
The PLD president warned that any attempt to reverse the popular mandate would trigger a political crisis with lasting consequences.
“Let this sovereign will of the people be respected. God is in command,” he concluded.
Cameroon Concord Analysis | The Echo of 1992 Returns
Analysts view Shewa David’s statement as one of the most significant symbolic endorsements yet — bridging the unfinished struggle of Fru Ndi’s 1992 movement with the 2025 wave of democratic resurgence around Issa Tchiroma.
From Bamenda to Bafoussam and Douala to Kribi, the message is the same: Cameroonians have spoken, and their verdict cannot be rewritten.
The courage to name fraud for what it is — especially from figures long silenced by the system — signals a profound political shift. Shewa David’s warning to ELECAM reflects a nation determined to defend its vote, even as regime loyalists scramble to control the narrative.
As one opposition strategist told Cameroon Concord:
“This time, they won’t bury the truth under paperwork. The ballot box spoke — and the people heard it.”
