Tchiroma Calls for Nationwide Ghost Town Protest
[GAROUA, Oct 31 – Cameroon Concord] — Opposition leader and declared president-elect Issa Tchiroma Bakary has called for a three-day national ghost town from Monday 3 to Wednesday 5 November 2025, urging citizens to “stand tall” and peacefully resist what he described as “a stolen victory secured through blood and deceit.”

In his televised and digital statement titled “Cameroonians, Let Us Stand Tall,” Tchiroma denounced the Constitutional Council’s proclamation that reinstated President Paul Biya for an eighth term. He accused the Council and ELECAM of “seizing the people’s sovereignty and trampling the truth of the ballot box.”
“Live bullets answered the songs of freedom. Families mourn their martyrs while those responsible celebrate with champagne,” Tchiroma said, referencing viral footage of senior regime figures celebrating the official results.
The opposition leader reaffirmed his earlier statements made on October 28, in which he condemned targeted abductions and alleged attempts to intimidate him. “Yesterday, they kidnapped two members of my family and my personal cook. Such acts will only deepen the people’s resolve,” he warned.
Tchiroma also confirmed that loyalist factions within the military had ensured his safety after violent crackdowns in Garoua. “I thank the patriotic soldiers who stood by the people and ensured my protection,” he said.
The Phase 3 campaign — his new call for non-violent civil resistance — comes after days of nationwide protests that have left dozens dead and hundreds detained.
“Let the entire country come to a standstill so that the world knows we are resisting and that our victory will not be stolen,” he urged, emphasizing calm, unity, and dignity.
Tchiroma closed by reaffirming his commitment to remain with the people “until justice and legitimacy prevail.”
“I will not rest until this regime returns your victory. Our freedom will not be negotiated,”* he declared.
