Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

The Ambazonian interim government, including Sisiku Ayuk Tabe and ten other members, urgently appealed to the government of President Bola Tinubu to facilitate their repatriation back to Nigeria.

Arrested in Nigeria on January 5, 2018, and subsequently forcefully deported to Cameroon, they argue that their detention was illegal and seek Tinubu's diplomatic intervention to ensure their return to Nigeria.

The case dates back to the time of former President Muhammadu Buhari when he refused to comply with the Supreme Court's order to disclose details of the deportation to the Cameroonian government. Sisiku Ayuk Tabe's legal team submitted a formal request to the Nigerian House of Representatives, urging discussion on this matter.

The petitioners argue that the Nigerian Parliament has the power to intervene and ensure their release. They claim that being imprisoned hinders their ability to engage in dialogue with the Cameroonian government or pursue their aspirations. They emphasize the importance of diplomatic mediation to resolve this situation.

Frulaw Chambers presented the petition to the House's Committee on Public Petitions, emphasizing that these individuals were not detained under Bola Tinubu's administration, highlighting his commitment to human rights. They call for his prompt intervention to secure the detainees' freedom.

In their petition, the separatist leaders and asylum seekers also called on the Nigerian government to implement the recommendations of the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and previous court decisions ordering their release and compensation.

Furthermore, they urge the Nigerian government to intervene in the conflict between Southern Cameroon and the Republic of Cameroon, using legal precedents and engaging in international proceedings, including before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), to address the situation.

During a press conference, the lawyer from Frulaw Chambers, accompanied by a former member of the House of Representatives, reiterated the call to Tinubu's government, emphasizing the urgency of the situation and urging swift action to ensure the detainees' release.

This call for Tinubu's intervention underscores the importance of diplomacy in resolving international conflicts and highlights the political and legal issues surrounding this case, emphasizing the need for immediate action to ensure justice and stability in the region.
