U-17 Women's World Cup:Cameroon junior ladies take on Venezuela today
Cameroon is in action today in what can arguably be defined as a must win game for the Central Africans against Venezuela, after Les Bébés Lionnes dropped points in their Fifa Under-17 Women's World Cup nail biter against Canada.
The South Americans, losers to Germany in a tough-fought 2-1 game, find themselves in a similar position and cannot afford to drop any points either.
Unlike the Cameroonians, who are in their maiden competition, La Vinotinto have been here twice and are hoping that their past experience will make the difference.
Led by the free-scoring Deyna Castellanos, attacking midfielder Daniuska Rodriguez and goalkeeper Nayluisa Caceres, all three of whom are veterans of the successful Costa Rica 2014 campaign, Venezuela arrived at Jordan 2016 as two-time defending South American champions, so the Lionesses must do more than just prance about.
Warmly congratulated by their “big sisters” the Lionesses in the senior national team the day after their qualification, the African youngsters are hoping to make just as impressive a world-finals debut as their elders did at the Fifa Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, where they reached the last 16.
Cameroon will be trying to earn Africa her first point in Jordan as Ghana and Nigeria, the continents other participants, both lost in their respective openers.
