Who will be FIFA's next president?
On February 26, 2016, the football world will get a new commander-in-chief following an extraordinary elective FIFA Congress to be held at the association's headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. The elections will put an end to the great Sepp Blatter era. For sure, Blatter's successor will not be Michel Platini, the candidate who reportedly had the support of many in the football business. Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini were suspended from football activities for a period of eight years for conflict of Interest and mismanagement. With the absence of these two personalities, the way is wide open for the emergence of a new strong man at the head of FIFA.
The new president will be elected from among the five candidates selected on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 by the Electoral Commission. They included the French Jérôme Champagne, former Secretary General of FIFA, South Africa's Tokyo Sexwale, the Jordanian Ali Bin Al Hussein, the Swiss Gianni Infantino UEFA General Secretary, Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahil of Bahrain.
With FIFA's image shaken by revelations of corruption and embezzlement, all the candidates are presenting projects mainly focused on their commitment to improve the image of FIFA and reform . For now, it is not easy to identify a favorite. Since the resignation of Sepp Blatter in October 2015, the Cameroonian Issa Hayatou, who is also president of the Confederation of African Football has held the post of FIFA president temporarily.
