Cameroon international Alex Song has joined Russian outfit Rubin Kazan from Spanish giants Barcelona on an expected one-year loan deal.
The 28-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan from the Blaugrana at West Ham United, having also done so in the previous term.
However, unlike under Sam Allardyce, Song was not a regular in Slaven Bilic's first season in charge of the Irons, and featured just 15 times in all competitions.
Song enjoyed a much more fruitful campaign at the Boleyn Ground club in 2014–2015, playing on 31 occasions, in total.
He began his senior career in Ligue 1 with Bastia, playing 35 games in all competitions as a young teenager in the 2004-2005 season.
Song then moved to Arsenal on loan for the next campaign before signing permanently 10 years ago.
He spent the 2006-07 term with the Gunners, before heading on loan to Londoners Charlton Athletic for a season, with five more terms then following in the north London side's first-team between 2007 and 2012.
In August 2012, Song signed a five-year contract with Barcelona for a fee of £15million, going on to play 34 times in total as his team won La Liga under Tito Vilanova, before another 31 appearances in the following campaign.
And Rubin posted a Twitter photograph of the combative midfielder smiling, and giving the thumbs up, at their training base on Thursday, alongside the (translated) caption: 'FC 'Rubin' reports reaching provisional agreement on the transition to the Kazan club Alexandre Song.'

Things went awry quickly for Minnesota United on Thursday (AEST), when the team hosted English Premier League team Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly at NSC Stadium in Blaine.
Already down 1-0 to a 24th minute Callum Wilson strike, United made things exponentially worse when the team's goalkeeper scored perhaps the most improbable own goal of all time barely two minutes later.
Yes, you saw that right. Sammy Ndjock was attempting to throw the ball to, well, somewhere when he accidentally dropped it into his own goal. Ndjock immediately realised his error and attempted to save it, but he failed. Miserably.
"I'm absolutely gobsmacked by that," United Coach Carl Craig said (via the Pioneer Press) after the game. "Never seen that in me life — ever."
Whatever happened, though, was likely a freak error. Although disappointed, Craig said he "cannot nail" the 26-year-old Cameroonian for the blunder.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), executive committee has named Salisu Yusuf as the new Super Eagles Head Coach after Frenchman Paul Le Guen failed to reach an agreement with the federation.
NFF’s Development Committee recommended that Le Guen be appointed as Super Eagles Technical Adviser to the executive committee on Monday, but the recommendation was rejected by the board according to a communique on Wednesday. However, Le Guen claims to have rejected the offer.
The board said that the Frenchman was unwilling to live in Nigeria and wanted to come with two assistants which would have made Nigerian coaches redundant made his candidature unacceptable to the board according to VanGuard.
“The committee further resolved that any candidate that will be recommended by the Technical and Development Sub-Committee must have accepted to be handed targets and must also be willing to live in Nigeria… In addition, such a candidate must agree to undergo other internal evaluation,’’ the communiqué said.
Ysusf will work at the Super Eagles and the CHAN Eagles and Imama Amakapabo would serve as Assistant Coach and Alloy Agu as Goalkeepers’ Trainer.
Le Guen had been named by the Nigerian Football Federation, which said he would work alongside Yusuf.
