A group of US lawmakers has called on the administration of President Barack Obama to reconsider cutting military aid to Israel for what they call possible extrajudicial killings of Palestinians by Israeli troops. US Senator Patrick Leahy along with ten other Democratic members of Congress have recently sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry to open an investigation into Israel’s “gross violations of human rights.” Details of the letter dated February 17 have been revealed just recently. The signatories said Israeli forces should be investigated on suspicion of extrajudicial execution of Palestinians. They say it should be determined whether US military aid to Israel should be cut as the US law bans providing military assistance to foreign military units which violate human rights.
The letter drew a strong reaction from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who on Wednesday said Israeli troops “and security forces are not murderers.” A few days ago, the Palestinian government called on the United Nations to launch a probe into the Israeli regime’s extrajudicial killings of Palestinians in the occupied lands. The request was made on Monday following the deadly shooting of an injured Palestinian by an Israeli trooper in the West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron).
Saeb Erekat, the secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said the Israeli regime claims to have launched a probe into the killing of the Palestinian, but history shows that their investigations have failed to “serve justice” and instead have been “rewarded with impunity.” “Since September 13, 207 cases of Israeli extrajudicial executions of Palestinians urgently require an international investigation. These executions are not isolated events and Israel must be held accountable for committing these crimes,” he added. On March 24, an Israeli human rights group released a video showing two Palestinian youths getting shot over alleged stabbing of an Israeli soldier earlier in the day.
A number of Israeli military officials claimed the Israeli trooper had acted in self defense. Nickolay Mladenov, the UN special envoy to the Middle East, condemned the “apparent extrajudicial execution” and said it was “a gruesome, immoral and unjust act that can only fuel more violence and escalate an already volatile situation.” Tensions have heightened in the occupied territories since August 2015, when Israel imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem). More than 200 Palestinians, including children and women, have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since the beginning of last October.

The Population of the North West Region is presently experiencing hard times due to the scarcity of cooking gas especially the SCTM brand. The price of SCTM domestic cooking gas which is the most consumed brand in the Region has skyrocketed from 6500FCFA to 8,500, 9000 and 10,000FCFA.
The Regional Delegate for Trade, Cletus Anye explained that the situation has been worsened by the fact that there is no SCTM gas depot in Bamenda. SCTM is among the seven gas brand currently in the Cameroon market.
In spite of efforts made by government to have retailers interchange domestic gas bottles, consumers are still faced with resistance. According to correspondent report, the scarcity, though acute in Bamenda, is presently felt nationwide.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has stressed the strengthening of Iran’s defense capabilities in the face of enemy threats. Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with eulogists on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad’s daughter Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (PBUH) on Wednesday.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted that Iran needs to have boosted its defensive military capabilities in order to strengthen its position in potential negotiations. “If the Islamic establishment seeks technology and negotiations but does not have defensive power, it will have to back down in the face of any petty country that threatens [it],” the Leader said. “That they say the future of the world is one of negotiation and not one of missiles... if that is said out of ignorance, well it is ignorance, but if it’s said knowingly, it is treason,”
Ayatollah Khamenei said. “The Islamic Republic must use all tools,” the Leader said, adding, “I am not opposed to political dialog, not with everyone of course. I am fine with political dialog on the level of global issues. These are times of both missiles and negotiations.”
Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks come as the United States and some of their European allies are seeking a meeting at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Iran’s recent missile tests, which they claim were carried out in defiance of a UNSC resolution.
In a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Spain’s UN Ambassador Roman Oyarzun Marchesi, the US, Britain, France, and Germany have reportedly called for discussions on an “appropriate response” by the UNSC to Iran’s missile tests.

Britain’s Prince Charles plans to visit Iran for the first official royal trip in more than 40 years, The Sunday Times reports. British government and royal officials are in talks with Iranian authorities about arranging a tour around the fall, the paper quoted a royal source as saying. “It is hoped that Prince Charles’ trip will help to boost trade and commercial links between the two countries, as well as marking a significant change in Anglo-Iranian relations,” the report said.
Britain is viewed with much cynicism because of its colonial past in Iran where the sobriquet “old fox” is widely used as a reference to the UK. In a litany of intrigues played on Iran, including a role in 1953 coup against the country’s first democratically-elected government, Britain was seen as the real power behind the “peacock throne” of a succession of pliant shahs. Philip Hammond became the first British foreign secretary to visit Iran for more than a decade in August last year and reopen the country’s embassy in Tehran.

Cameroonian MPs have reportedly promised to vote yes to a constitutional amendment that will enable the 83 year old President Biya to run for president in 2018 if the CPDM government makes available to each parliamentarian, a new 4x4 jeep. The members of parliament who are predominantly in their 70s and 80s have even openly petitioned the President of the National Assembly for a new car endowment.
The MPs in their letter to House Speaker, Cavaye Djibril, observed that they are badly in need of some kind of financial allocation for maintenance of their vehicles or if possible the purchase of a new one to brave the bad roads in the rural areas of the country.
The elected representatives believe that the time for them to get something more than the 10,000,000 FCFA, received in 2014 is now as the Cameroonian dictator intends to change the constitution that will eventually pave the way for him to seek another mandate.
The MPs also say their current vehicles are no longer fit for their multiple missions. Hence the need for a 4x4 jeep. The water shortages, load shedding of electricity and other unwanted harassment and scandals in hospitals, which affects the entire population seem not to be the concern of these Cameroonian MPs.
