Cameroon qualifies for the finals of the 2016 Africa Women's Cup of Nations by beating Ghana 1-0 in Yaounde on Tuesday to set up a date with either Nigeria or South Africa in Saturday’s final.
Midfielder Raissa Feudjio scored the only goal of the match on 71 minutes as ‘Les Lionnes’ deservingly booked their place in the grand finale and continue their march towards a historic first ever title in the flagship women’s competition.
Backed by a packed crowd at the renovated Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in the capital, Yaounde, Feudjio scrambled home after Ghana goalkeeper Nana Ama Asantewaa fumbled an aerial ball to set the tone for victory.
Despite the dominance, the Cameroonians had found the Ghanaian backline a mountain too tall to climb with Feudjio, Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene and forward Gaelle Enganamouit asking the West African defence several questions.
Playing on the left, Aboudi Onguene was unlucky as her goalbound shot on 26 minute hit the post with Asantewaa beaten.
Earlier, Asantewaa had calmly collected Enganamouit’s header.
The Ghanaians barely had a shot on goal throughout the first half after being outplayed by the host.
Upon resumption, Cameroon coach Enow Ngachu introduced Jeanette Ngock Yango for Michelle Akaba and the former added to the pressure on the Ghanaian backline.
The moment finally came on 71 minutes when Asantewaa spilled a corner by Aboudi Onguene in the penalty area and Enganamouit, who was lurking around, found Ajara Nchout Njoya whose shot was blocked by Linda Eshun before Feudjio bundled home.
Substitute Michele Ngono Mani almost doubled the lead with a superb volley but Ghana goalkeeper Patricia Mantey, who had replaced injured Asantewaa minutes earlier, responded with a positive save.
The host will face the winner of Nigeria-South Africa in Saturday’s final in Yaounde, while Ghana battle the loser for bronze on Friday.
Cameroon lost 0-2 to Nigeria in the final in 2014 in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Indomitable Lionesses will lock horns with the black Queens in a crunch Semifinal match of the African women's championship this Tuesday, but ahead of that showdown, both still keep the history of their past meetings so well.
The last confrontation between the two was during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games qualifiers, unfortunately, Cameroon knocked Ghana out of the race. While Ghana struggles to revenge over that defeat, they've not forgotten about the finals they won in Brazzaville during the 2015 All African Games after defeating Cameroon. Another revenge for the Lionesses. In a nutshell, the Cameroon versus Ghana game is all about revenge. Let the best side win.

Indomitable Lions Coach is making another bid to try and convince Liverpool defender Joel Matip to end his self-imposed exile from the team and compete for the Indomitable Lions in the African Nations Cup finals.
Coach Hugo Broos is to make another trip to see the defender, who moved to the Premier League this season from Schalke 04 in Germany.
Matip last played for Cameroon at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil but has refused to turn out for the country since.
“When I took over as coach I went to see him in Gelsenkirchen and ask him to return to the team,” said Broos in an interview in this week’s edition of the Belgian Voetbal Magazine.
“But he said to me ‘nothing is organised properly in Cameroon’. I asked him to give me a chance to prove that we could do it better but he was not convinced.
“But in the meantime I’ve heard that he is now prepared to make a comeback and so I am going to go and see him again,” said Broos.
Matip, as well as his elder brother Marvin, who has also turned out for the Indomitable Lions, was born in Germany.
His father Jean came from Cameroon to study chemistry and was also a part-time football coach in Bochum, where his sons were born.
Matip accepted an invitation, when he was still a teenager, from Paul le Guen to play for Cameroon at the 2010 African Nations Cup finals and has competed at two World Cups.
Cameroon have been drawn against hosts Gabon, Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau in Group A at the upcoming Nations Cup tournament.
Broos said Cameroon would start their pre-tournament preparations in Limbe and on January 5 host the Democratic Republic of Congo in a friendly.
Cameroon will then go to Equatorial Guinea for a second training camp before making a short trip to Libreville to begin the tournament.
