The Lionesses of Cameroon, vice champions of Africa in the just ended Africa Female Basket tournament hosted in Yaounde have refused to leave Hotel Mont Febe over unpaid bonuses. One of the players, Valerie Avebe, who spoke to local and international media on Friday the 9th, observed that a hotel manager came to them saying he has been told to order all the players to leave the hotel.
Surprised by the decision, the 10 players still present at the Hotel Mont-Febe after the departures of Ramses Lonlack and Miesha Blackshear for the USA, replied that they will quit only after receiving the 5 million francs CFA promised them by the Minister of Sports-who by some happenstance was sacked in the last cabinet shakeup.
The scene created at the Hotel Mont Febe has been shameful and disgusting. Amina Djonkou who appeared to be the spokesperson for the striking basketball players said, the group was even willing to accept a lower amount of money. The President of the Cameroon Basketball Federation, FECABasket has ever since the end of the competition not been seen. Samuel Duku remained unreachable even by phone.

Nigeria bounced back from their defeat to DR Congo last time out with a convincing 3-0 triumph over 10-man Cameroon in Brussels. Nigeria made an excellent start to life without captain Vincent Enyeama as they eased to a comfortable 3-0 friendly win over 10-man Cameroon. The goalkeeper retired from international football last week following a reported rift with head coach Sunday Oliseh, but he was not missed against lacklustre opposition in Brussels. Second-half goals from the impressive Moses Simon and substitute Odion Ighalo put the result beyond doubt following Efe Ambrose's opener before the interval. Any hopes of a Cameroon comeback were al but ended a minute into the second half when captain Sebastien Siani received his marching orders for a second bookable offence. And Nigeria soon capitalised on their numerical advantage through Simon's strike, Igalho rounding off the triumph in the 89th minute with a close-range header after Cameroon forward Vincent Aboubakar had a goal disallowed. The loss was just the second of 2015 for Volker Finke's Cameroon, while the victory provides a timely morale boost for Nigeria ahead of their African Nations Championship qualifier against Burkina Faso next weekend.
Determined to make amends for their 2-0 defeat to DR Congo last time out, Oliseh's side came out strong this time round, with Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa on form to deny both Sylvester Igboun and Emmanuel Emenike. But Nigeria made their dominance count shortly before half-time, Ambrose – who had gone close to scoring an own goal at the other end with an over-hit back pass a few moments earlier – heading home from John Obi Mikel's free-kick. Thing got worse for Cameroon a minute into the second half, Siani picking up his second yellow card after diving in on Igboun. Nigeria duly extended their lead on the hour mark, Simon slaloming through Cameroon's defence before lashing a finish into the bottom-right corner. Aboubakar thought he had pulled Cameroon back into contention with 15 minutes remaining, but his strike was ruled out for offside. It mattered little, however, with Watford forward Ighalo coming off the bench to nod in a third late on.

The friendly to take place in Belgium is to keep the lions fit for the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup. The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will lock horns with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a friendly on Sunday October 11th. The match to take place in Belgium serves as preparation for the Lions who are engaged in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup next month. Ahead of the encounter, team coach, Volker Finke published a list of 25 players, out of whom 19 responded present for the training camp currently taking place in Belgium.
The encounter will be the 20th and given the rivalry in football between Cameroon and Nigeria, the match is surely not going to have anything to do with a friendly as the engagement is going to be intense. Meanwhile, the venue for the encounter has been changed from the Van Roy of Denderleeuw to Edmond Machtens stadium in Molenbeek still in Belgium. The Lions continue training at the Joli Bois sports complex in Waterloo in preparation for the encounter. The training marked by exercises on the field and the gymnasium was punctuated yesterday by a warm up match against the leader of the Belgian championship, KVO Ostenden- where Cameroonian-born Sebastien Siani who has been called up to the national selection for the very first time plays his football.
Before then, the Lions have been having exercises including shooting at the goal post, mock matches among themselves with eight players on either side. The attackers trained on attacking from the flanks and the centre as well as connecting the ball to the goalpost within the 18-metre box. The match against KVO Ostenden is to enable the coach to get an understanding of the new players in a real match situation as well as overhaul the tactical plan put in place. The Cameroon delegation to Belgium is being led by Luc Koa representing Fecafoot.
