Cameroonians kept a football vigil over events in Vancouver- Canada, where for the first time in the history of the Women's World Cup, two new comers met. One would have expected a balanced encounter between Cameroon and Ecuador in the opening Group C Canada 2015, but the Anglophone leadership mounted by Enow Ngachu of the Cameroon side became the decisive factor. They arrived Canada with nothing and the manager relied on YouTube images to get an insight into our Ecuador opponents. Then fake promises followed from the CPDM FECAFOOT crime syndicate. But the girls kept their faith in the man they all refer to as Dad.  Gaëlle Enganamouit announced before the game that "We can win the World Cup."

The time to make our mark on the world stage had come and the Lionesses joined the acts of speech. Cameroon Radio and Television senior sports commentator Fon Echikeye made a summary of the actions that led to Cameroon crushing Ecuador 6:O.  A strike returned by the Ecuador keeper was pushed to the bottom by Madeleine Ngono Mani (34 ', 1: 0), a breakaway in the axis and a serene conclusion (36', 2: 0), an action that results in a penalty that Christine Manie turns (44 ', 3: 0), and the first game of the Indomitable Lionesses is already folded.

Ligia Moreira’s red card caused by Enganamouit only aggravated the Ecuadorian case leading to a fourth goal (73 ', 4: 0). Onguene ‘s penalty after a hand from Katherine Ortiz (79 ', 5: 0), and it  she again had the last word in transforming a new stoppage (90 '+ 4, 6: 0).

Cameroon will take on the Democratic Republic of Congo today in Mons, Belgium in a warm up encounter towards the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. The confrontation between the two countries will be the second in less than six months as both countries separated on a one-all tie in a friendly match in December in the build up to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. Both sides seem to be in good shape judging from their latest results.

The Leopards who have been in camp in Belgium since June 1^st, walloped a local division five football club, 14-0 while the Indomitable Lions who have equally been in camp since June 1^st in France, beat Burkina Faso 3-2 on Saturday in a friendly at the Yves du Manoir de Colombes stadium in the outskirts of Paris.

After the encounter, the Lions were given a day off to rest and resumed training the day after at the Leonard de Vinci playground; training twice a day in the morning an evening periods. The Lion’s squad which has been completed with the arrival of team captain, Stephane Mbia and Aurelien Chedjou, left France yesterday for Mons-Belgium for the friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo today at 7 p.m.

However, attention is already focused on the match against Mauritania next Sunday in Yaounde, counting for the first day of play of the qualifiers for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Gabon. The Lions are without their vice captain, Choupo Moting who is injured and will be out for three weeks. Choupo took advantage of his medical rest to get into wedlock in his native town of Hamburg in Germany.

The most striking feature of the Lions selected by Volker Finke is that most of the players called up are very young in the likes of Justin Mengolo, Christian Zock and Yaya Banana who were in the starting eleven in the friendly against Burkina Faso. There is also Félix Eboa, Dani Ndi, Alexandre Kombi, Karl and Toko Ekambi who came in as substitutes.

Cameroon will take on Ecuador today at the BC place stadium in Vancouver in their first group outing at the ongoing women’s world cup in Canada. The Lionesses who have been bracing up for the tournament in Canada will be facing the unknown as coach Enow Ngatchu attested that he has no knowledge of Ecuadorian football except from few information gathered on the internet and through the help of friends.

However, Cameroon will be banking on the fact that they were the first foreign delegation to arrive on Canadian soil for the competition and have had enough time to prepare and get acquainted to the climate. Both Cameroon and Ecuador are in their first participation in the tournament and aiming to create sensation by clinching a spot for the second round.

The Lionesses spent time in Canada training and playing friendly matches against colleges and local Canadian selections in preparation for the tournament. During this time, they were paid a visit by former Indomitable Lion, Patrick Mboma who urged them to make history by performing well in the competition. The president of the feminine football commission, Celine Eko, also arrived in Canada just in time for the Lionesses to officially take up residence in Vancouver after leaving Surrey city where they had been training.

Meanwhile, the president of the Normalisation Committee, Joseph Owona in a press release has published the amount of the different categories of bonuses to be paid out to the players and team officials. The qualification bonus stands at FCFA 15 million while the bonus for matches won range from three to fifteen million depending how far the Lionesses go into the competition. On the opening day of the competition, host Canada beat China 1-0 while the Netherlands narrowly edged New Zealand on an identical 1-0 score.

Top-ranked Germany announced their arrival at the Women's World Cup on Sunday by handing out a near-record 10-0 thrashing to Ivory Coast that underlined the gulf between the heavyweights and emerging teams.

For the first time, the World Cup has been expanded to 24 sides from 16, which opens up the tournament to newcomers like Thailand and Ivory Coast.

Governing body FIFA says this reflects the increasing strength of women's football but the debutants learnt on Sunday just how far behind they still are.
