Stakeholders in the Mines Industries and Technological Development sector in the North West Region have been schooled on the role of the Kimberley Process in the region. Following the creation, organisation and functioning of the Kimberly Process in 2011 in Cameroon, organisers in the sector have been going round the country to sensitize the public on their activities. It is against this backdrop that a meeting was organised on October 27, 2015 in Bamenda to drill stakeholders in the sector on their activities.
During the meeting participants were made to understand that the Kimberly Process is aimed at tracing the minerals of the North West, and will also help in the sale o f these precious minerals for the betterment of the individuals involved. According to the Regional Focal Point of the Kimberley Process, Ngecha Joseph Endeley, the North West Region has a good number of minerals dotted in the seven divisions of the Region.
He revealed that there was Gold and Saphire in Misaje, Donga Mantung Division just like Kaolin in Momo Division amongst others. He pointed out that the Kimberly Process is out to take stock of active mining sites in the Region, before any activity can begin. He equally reminded all that the population concern will be greatly involved in all the process. On his part the Regional Delegate of Mines Industries and Technological Development, Tegha Charles Ebua, acknowledged the timeliness of the Kimberley Process in the region. He opined that it was coming at a time when they were facing difficulties in identifying areas endowed with minerals.

Prime Minister Philemon Yang has told his cabinet ministers to flush out all senior civil servants who have retired and are refusing to leave office. The premier gave the directives reminding ministers to scrupulously respect the standing instruction of the President of the Republic requiring them to ensure that officials under their authority are allowed to claim their rights to retirement and actually release the service on time.
Many Secretary Generals, directors, deputy directors, division leaders, cell leaders and heads of service who officially retired from the public service have blatantly refused to leave their posts claiming to be waiting for their replacements to be appointed which can take forever. Although they no longer receive salaries from the Cameroonian public service, they have access to huge budgetary allocations that they manage it quietly.
Cameroon Concord understands that more than half of the Secretary Generals and Inspector Generals of ministries have reached the retirement age. Several of them have even been notified by a ministerial order from the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform. Others have obtained extensions which have also expired but refuse to effectively release the service. It is common to find in public offices, elderly and retired people who still hold office under the false pretext that he/she has been hired by the minister in charge.
However, one wonders if Prime Minister Yang Philemon will succeed this time around to resolve the thorny case of retirements. Following his appointment as prime minister in June 30th 2009, he set as priority the issue of retirement of senior officials who have reached the age limit. In October 2009, Philemon Yang ordered each department to initiate the procedure. Not much has been done.

Helen Dina Essoka, Regional Head of Control Service [Police de Police] in the South West Region of Cameroon has resigned from the Police Force. In her resignation letter of 12/10/2015 to the Head of State President Biya through the Delegate General for National Security [DGNS], Mbarga Nguele, Helen Dina Essoka observed that she has had enough of the rubbish from the police hierarchy which inter alia included gross injustice, human right violation, harassment, financial stress stemming from her wrongful suspension of salary and duty without pay.
The suspension she revealed in her letter violated the basic text that created the Cameroonian police force. The Helen Dina Essoka suspension and resignation dates back to the land grabbing problem in Tiko Sub-Division in which the Governor and Regional Delegate for National Security including other senior state officials in the Sub-Division were all alleged to be part of the scam.
Cameroon Concord learned when she carried out an in-depth investigation into the constant seizure of land from the natives by highly placed CPDM officials, the Governor and the Regional Delegate for National Security framed and fabricated stories against her, all with the objective to get her fired from her duty post.
Mrs. Helen Dina ever since her suspension on June 2014, has gone without a salary and has appealed to President Biya not to only look into her case but also that of other Police officers of Anglophone extraction who have suffered a similar fate.
