Members of parliament have unanimously said citizens should be better informed about the management of natural resources in the country and that the future generations must not be deprived of the income from these resources. The Honourable Members of Parliament of both the Upper and the Lower House made the call during a meeting held under the auspices of the Parliamentary Network for Sustainable Management of the Forest Ecosystems.
In Cameroon, there is still no regulatory framework for mining. The rich subsoil is anarchically exploited and officially reported figures often do not fit with reality. All what is often claimed to have been done with oil, timber or mining money ranges from plain fiction to the most absurd. Recent attempts by the Biya regime to publish figures from the petroleum sector and the National Hydro Carbon companies have met with a stone wall following revelations from the Albatross Affair. See this week end edition of The AGBAW-EBAI DEBATE.
This recent move by predominantly CPDM members of parliament has worried Etoudi and many political commentators are seeing it as a sign that the MPs are slowly but surely moving away from the status quo. Hon. Jean Jacques Zam is said to be leading the movement.

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications Jean Pierre Biyit Bi Essam has been summoned by judges of the Special Criminal Court (TCS) in Yaoundé as part of an investigation into the financial scandal that rocked the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in Cameroon in 2009. Cameroon Concord understands the minister had appeared many times before the special tribunal and responded to charges brought against him for attempting to divert funds allocated for media coverage of the Benedict XVI visit of March 17 to the 20th of 2009. The investigation initiated by financial crime experts unveiled that Minister Biyiti Bi Essam had placed on February 26 and March 10 the sum of 60 and 70 millions respectively in his personal bank account at Societe Generale Bank (SGBC).
During past hearings, Jean-Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam had told investigators that he had no other option to secure the millions that were given to him late in the evening. Cameroon Concord has learnt that this recent convocation is no longer interested in Biyiti’s Arabian Night tales but for him to explain the "whereabouts" of the 770 million he received from the Minister of Finance in his capacity as Minister of Communication from which the Cameroon Radio and Television was supposed to have been paid 450 million, the Cameroon Telecommunications Company (CAMTEL) 140 millions and Cameroon Tribune 40 millions. It is vital to include in this report that the Francophone Beti-Ewondo government still does not see the need for Ministries and other government departments to have bank accounts. Under the present circumstances, any citizen appointed to head a ministerial department can easily be send to jail.

The late ambassador Jerome Mendouga may have ended his 30 glorious years as a Cameroonian diplomat in shame. Perhaps it was deliberate, perhaps it was accidental. But some will be punished and some will be pardoned. For never in the history of our nation, have men with his quality and standing been humiliated in such a vicious manner. At 76, Jerome Mendouga saw and lived it all---- former ambassador of Cameroon to the USA, Zaire and Senegal. Cameroon Concord says Rest In Peace Your Excellency

Gregoire Owona, Minister of Labour and Social Insurance is reportedly at war with the General Manager of the National Social Insurance Fund Alain Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame. Cameroon Concord learnt that the minister has written a protest letter to the Prime Minister and Head of Government Philemon Yang raising a finger against the management of the fund. Gregoire Owona noted in his letter to the premier that Mvondo Akame’s policies were in sharp contrast to those of the CPDM government.
The disagreement between Owona and Akame we are told, generated from an earlier action by the CNPS board that sacked two nurses from the National Social Insurance Fund hospital in Yaounde assigned to the late mother-in-law of President Biya- Madam Marie-Rosette Mboutchouang. The decision to sack the two nurses was reached when the National Social Insurance Fund discovered that they were chosen by the Director of Civil Cabinet at the presidency to keep vigil at the bedside of the late Marie-Rossette Mboutchounang and not the medical officer in charge-- a decision that was later on reversed due to pressure from the presidency. Inside sources within the Francophone Beti-Ewondo government say, the days of Alain Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame at the head of the CNPS are numbered.
