The road via the main gate to the Ministry of Finance in Yaoundé was blocked on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 by sitting protesters carrying placards. It was another sit-down strike of the former employees of 48 Crown corporations claiming the full payment of their social rights balances and the conversion premium estimated to be about 1.5 billion CFA francs. Cameroon Concord gathered that this issue has been going on but nobody in Yaoundé has taken responsibility, nobody has apologized for the poor management of the situation and nobody –not even the Prime Minister has resigned. The silence can only be deliberate noted our chief political correspondent.
Cameroon Concord is yet to identify any government in the world that has held on to power after such fiasco over unpaid conversion premiums. Clearly, the Biya regime has evidence of its efforts to resolve this situation, but remains vague at the designated representatives as intermediaries. Tension is growing over time and many in Yaoundé still cannot understand why the CPDM government has failed woefully to seek a lasting solution to this minor problem.

In what seems to be another pathetic end to one of the key players of the Albatross affair, former Secretary General at the presidency of the republic, Jean Atangana Mebara is reported to be dying at the Yaounde General Hospital. Cameroon Concord learnt that the former Biya confidante was like the late Ambassador Jerome Mendouga rushed to the Yaounde General hospital on Friday the 9th of January 2015. Our informant within his entourage hinted at the time of writing this report that the former minister was in a critical but stable condition.
This is the second time Mr. Mebara has been taken to the intensive unit at the Yaounde General Hospital. The previous one was at the beginning of May 2014. It is vital to include in this report that Mebara and the late Ambassador Jerome Mendouga were due to appear at the Special Criminal Tribunal on Monday January 12, 2014. Their trial was adjourned to the 27th of January for a re-constitution of the tribunal affected by President Biya’s new appointments and transfers deep within the magistracy.

Owners of driving schools in Cameroon have vowed to interrupt the exams to obtain driving license if the government does not stop their irregularities in the sector.
They presented their grievances to the minister for transport, Robert Nkili denouncing corruption by transport officials.
The exams scheduled for 24 January risk being postponed. The proprietors argue that candidates who present themselves during exams have never gone to driving schools and that transport officials have confiscated the exams especially with releasing results which according to them takes more than three to four months to be published.
The proprietors say none of them will channel his list for the exams if Mr NKILI does not look into their problems. On his part transport boss had suspended the issuance of licenses for creation of new driving schools.
Robert Nikli had revealed during the meeting, that just 102 of the 442 driving schools in the country are operating in conformity with the acceptable standards set.
A survey carried out indicates that about 154 of these schools operate without licenses.
The Minister of Transport also frowned at the fact that some managers of these schools are deceptive; training is carried out without the necessary equipment while others are lured into believing that the training offered qualifies them to have international driving licenses or become drivers of heavy-duty vehicles.
