The National Gendarmerie claimed recently to have intensified efforts to ensure safety on highways in Cameroon. But a recent video has revealed that the continuation of the “Operation Control-Monitor-Punish has instead been a source of extorting money from drivers and other road users.
In this video, officers could be seen taking bribe from drivers at a control point at Santa, Mezam Division. The officers were boldly sharing the fruits of their standing in the sun amongst themselves.
In 1998, the Roman Catholic Bishops of Cameroon stated that corruption has attained a suicidal level in the country.
Today, it has culminated to being a normal way of life - those who practice it no longer feel the slightest guilt – their consciences are sealed.

A family has accused the Kribi District Hospital of mutilating the corpse of their brother. Mr Mfoula Oscar Seth, who died on 15th April 2017 due to poor health, was kept at the mortuary of the hospital.
Upon burial, the family realized the corpse of their brother displayed some unusual features. Parts of the body had been chopped off, and there were sutures on the corpse.
Cameroon-Infor.Net reports (citing Le Messager) that the family claimed to have observed during the removal of the corps that the undertakers had simply dressed the corps, without any washing.
But during burial, the family discovered that there was a deep scar on the lower part of the deceased’s jaw. Further scrutinizing revealed that both sides of the throat carried a hole. Another hole was discovered below the stomach, by the right.
A family member undressed the corpse just to find sutures around the neck and stomach, and blood stains on the shirt of the resting man. “Touching those areas felt like a piece of cardboard,” Cameroon-Info.Net reports, quoting the alleged relative.
The case was reported to a prosecutor who transferred it instantly to the Kribi gendarmerie brigade. Reports say the said prosecutor has been following the case since then, all in vain. No hearing has been observed, they say.
In the meantime, the director of the hospital is believed by locals to be “involved” in the incident. Rumours of body parts trafficking have been going round in recent times at the hospital.
The director, who is believed to have been implicated in another scandalous case at Laquintinie in Daoula, reportedly fired the main mortuary guard at the hospital, just to bring in three new faces without the approval of the managing board of the hospital.
But Dr Tsagadigui Jean-Gustave is yet to react to the claims.
As the deceased’s family threatens to take to the street if nothing concrete is done, there is growing concern among people of how safe our hospitals are.

A youngster, whose names were not revealed, is presently in the Belo Gendarmerie custody for bestiality. He was caught having sexual gratification with a nanny goat. This unlucky she-goat has not been able to walk since its dignity was desecrated.
CRTV sources revealed this Friday 26 May that, before he started sleeping with goats, he had been having sexual relations with other young boys of his age. One of the lads, who happened to be a victim of this act of terror, reportedly got mad before being saved by a traditional doctor.
When the Belo inhabitants learnt about the incident, they swiftly reacted, battering the young delinquent as he deserved.
While at the Belo Gendarmerie Brigade, the twelve year old disclosed that, he had been receiving money and a ring from an old man, which motivated him to be perpetuating the act of sodomy.
As investigation is underway on the situation, the Belo Gendarmerie Brigade commander calls on everyone to cooperate with the armed forces, so as to find the mysterious grandfather who is alleged to have been interfering adversely in this young boy's live.

Some 10 men of the underworld earlier today, left dozens of travellers along the Kumba-Mamfe-Batibo road axis stranded.
According to information from Canal 2, innocent travellers who had left Bamenda for Batibo fell prey to hungry bandits at the early hours of 4pm this 25 May 2017.
One of the passengers disclosed that, they were travelling, and then at one point, they saw five cars stationed in front of them. They thought the occupants of the cars had had an accident, thus they came out of their bus to see what was happening. On reaching there, the culprits pointed their weapons at them, asking everyone to surrender their belongings.
Every valuable item was seized from the poor passengers, who had no choice than to surrender everything as there were no armed forces around at that time.
An estimated sum of 18 million FCFA was ridden of the victims. Despite the loss, they were happy no one was harmed.
The only marks the thieves left were broken benches which they used to Block the road with. No one knows the whereabouts of the unscrupulous men.

In an interview broadcast over the Equinox private Radio station yesterday morning, a journalist of the CRTV attempted to put the fallen 8:30pm news presenter on the innocent vein.
Emmanuel Atangana as he is called, explained that it was not Adele Mballa’s fault that she read unverified information
He put the blame on a member of the production team, who is said to have brought the false list of Emmanuel Macron’s government, 15 minutes into the evening news broadcast. He further precised that, Adele Mballa on the set, did not have enough time to proofread the information as norms demand.
What is unclear about his justifications is that it took him over a week to cook up that story. The circumstances surrounding the mischievous performance had to be disclosed earlier than now.
“I myself have committed errors in my career as a news presenter because of the trust I had in colleagues, so please don’t sing about her own case all over, as if she is the first to experience that. It can happen to anybody”, outlined Emmanuel Atangana. He went on to give examples of other journalists, “Charles Ndongo and Alain Bellibi who are some of the top personnel of the State broadcaster, have equally made silly mistakes. Am not so bitter about this matter because I work at the CRTV, but because it can happen to anybody”.
It’s worth noting that, other members of the production team that were there that evening, will equally go down for tarnishing the National station’s image.
Since the 15th of May that the incident took place, CRTV has not been stable, as the Director General Charles Ndongo’s position is as well threatened.

The 4 workers of the Buea council who embarked on a hunger yesterday Tuesday 23rd May 2017 demanding over 44 months of unpaid salaries have vowed to resume striking if nothing satisfactory is done about it.
It should be noted that the total 44 months is divided as follows: 22 months for a lady, 17 months for the leader Hans Mangam, and 5 months each for two others.
Many Cameroonians have condemned the situation and call on the government to react to the plight of the workers.
“I don’t know why some Mayors think only about themselves. How a Mayor who claims his constituency does so well, allow his workers to go without food. This is shameful. The government should do something about this quick before it goes out of hand” says an angry observer
The governor of the south west region Bernard Okalia Bilai has instructed the secretary general, the chief of cabinet and the south west regional chief of councils, to have a dialogue with them. The officials at the governor’s office have promised to take a major decision over the matter in the coming days.
