Thieves have stolen 60 million euros from the house of a former Equatorial Guinea minister.
The country’s state television announced on Tuesday the robbery of the sum of money belonging to Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro, the former minister of information and secretary general of the ruling party. The amount was confirmed to AFP.
Twenty million euros have been recovered and four of the thieves have been arrested, some in Cameroon, according to a source at the television station. The brain behind the group is still on the run.
They are Burkina Faso nationals and employees of the former minister, according to the television RTVGE which showed 100 and 200 euro notes without specifying the amount of money stolen.
They disappeared with the money in mid-July from Anisok in the mainland while the former government official was at his nightclub, reports RTVGE.
No indication was given of the source of funds that the former minister kept at home.

The National Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Front-SDF met in Bamenda last weekend and during the meeting one of the key points on the agenda was the launching of over 20.000 signatures for the immediate release of Laurent Gbagbo.
In his preliminary remarks SDF Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi said that the petition is not to change power in Cote d’Ivoire but it is intended to establish the truth about what happened before Laurent Gbagbo was kidnapped. According to Ni John Fru Ndi, the petition is only about the liberation of President Laurent Gbagbo “because in the absence of the responsible actors of Cote d’Ivoire’s crisis, any decision taken at the Hague will be void of any legality.
Fru Ndi added that “today is a very important day because we are launching a petition in Cameroon which we sincerely hope will obtain the adherence without fear nor shame of a vast majority of people in Cameroon from all ranks and file and across the political spectrum, to call for the immediate release of President Laurent Gbagbo, from the unjust, and unsuitable situation in which a few known impostors of the legitimacy of the International community have placed him.
He continued that the international community cannot be shaped into the wish of neo-imperialism and cannot continuously, in the 21st century cannot be subject to wishful justice. To Ni John Fru Ndi, the petitions will true justice a chance.

At the upcoming 2016 edition of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations which Cameroon will be hosting bwtween November-December of 2016 , security measures will be strengthened in hotels in Cameroon, to enable this continental celebration of women football to take place in serenity, the State Minister in charge of Tourism, Maïgari Bello Bouba, announced.
To achieve this, according to this Cameroonian government member, a memorandum on security measures applicable in hotels has been developed and adopted, with the support of the public administrations in charge of security in the country. “One of the recommendations made by the head of government, President of the National Tourism Council, is that this memorandum be immediately put into application and mandatory”, Maïgari Bello Bouba specified.
As a reminder, the continental competition which Cameroonian will host from this coming November will take place in the cities of Limbe (South-West) and Yaoundé (Central), two towns far removed from the Extreme-North region, where the attacks carried by the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram are focused.
But, Minister Bello Bouba stresses, since “the (terrorist, Ed.) threat has become a worldwide affair, as even the big countries are suffering from it”, Cameroon obviously wants to be ready for all possibilities. So that all “our guests be assured that they will enjoy a peaceful time” throughout the competition, the Head of the Ministry in charge of Tourism in Cameroon declared.

Tens of thousands of people have protested in Congo, calling for the resignation of President Joseph Kabila once his term ends in December. Opposition leaders fear Kabila may try to extend his rule for a third term.
Demonstrators chanted anti-government slogans and waved flags as they marched down Kinshasa's streets on Sunday, calling for President Joseph Kabila to resign after his term ends in late December.
Addressing tens of thousands of protesters, opposition leader Etienne Tshisekedi said the electoral commission needed to be convened by September 19, the "first red line, which must not be crossed."
"The electoral body must be convened for the presidential election. If it is not, high treason will be proved in the person of Mr. Kabila, who will take responsibility for the misery of the Congolese people," said the 83-year-old leader.
Presidential polls are due to take place in November, but Kabila's government has said logistical problems may delay the vote.
In May, Congo's Constitutional Court ruled Kabila could remain in office in caretaker capacity beyond the end of his mandate. The ruling sparked fears that Kabila could try to extend his rule by a third term.
