After the wave of suspensions brought about by the protests carried out this Monday over the absence of health insurances and other social benefits at the Douala city council, arrests of protest leaders have now begun.
The staff representative Ntamark Otti Bako was arrested Wednesday and carried to the Judicial Police in Bonanjo before taken to the Ndokoti Court of First instance Thursday morning. The motive of his arrest is the destruction of the locks to the house he is occupying belonging to the Douala City Council. The house was sealed after Monday strike.
The family of Ntamark Otti is calling on the government to intervene in the situation.
“My father is already very sick because of this situation, and we are not ready to lose our father who is very dear to us. He has suffered too much for us. Let the government delegate listen to the cry of the children of Mr Ntamark. He has worked and sacrificed a lot for the government for many years. We want to have the peace we had before the delegate sent his agents to come and do what they did” says one of the children of Mr. Ntamark Otti Bako.
Many say Mr. Ntamark Otti is just the first of many who are yet to be arrested in line with.

The population of Marche Tanko in the Bonaberi neighbourhood of Douala was yesterday shocked by the discovery of the lifeless body of a 66 year old woman murdered in cold blood in her own apartment. The body of the woman who goes by the name of Julienne Ngwenga and originates from loum in the Mungo division of the country was discovered by her neighbours. Reports say the door to her room was forced open by the neighbours after her child looked for her without any success.
“We were shocked when we discovered the body of this woman full of wounds and carefully locked up in her own room” says a panicking neighbour.
According to eyes witnesses, the body of the 66 year old woman was covered with more than five wounds believed to be knife wounds. They say, there is high probability that the murder could have been caused by a close member of the family.
“I am very sure that this murder has been carried out by a close relative of the deceased. It is not suicide. Somebody wanting to commit suicide cannot be able to give herself more than five knife wounds before dying. I am sure a member of her family is involved in this”.
Although reports also say the said Julienne Ngwenga was involved in a fierce quarrel weeks earlier with one of her neighbours who promised her hard times, many still think that her murder could be linked to someone else who knows the in and out of her 5 bedroom house.

Barely a month since a woman in Limbe killed her husband with acid in order to take off with a boyfriend, a similar incident has happened; this time in Malende, a neighbouring village to Kumba. The woman who has been having extra marital affairs with a Youngman of the same village, yesterday April 12, 2017 confessed to the population after she was caught that she has been influenced by her boyfriend to kill her bedridden husband.

Relatives of the sick man say they least expected this type of extreme behaviour from their inlaw.
“I am very surprised at what our brother’s wife was trying to do. She seemed to me a very good woman but thanks to God she has been exposed” says a relative
The two lovers who were planning to run away and live happily ever after, were severely beaten by the angry population before finally escorting them out of Malende Village.

The people of villages of Nsaongwa and Chomba this Monday had a fierce confrontation over a piece of land. According to reports gathered, a native of Chomba reportedly built a house in Nsongwa without paying allegiance to the people of Nsongwa.
As a result, men women and youths of Nsongwa stumped the area and started destroying properties.
According to the people of Nsongwa this was a strategy carefully scripted by the people of Chomba to take away their land unnoticed.
An indigene of Nsongwa says “the Chomba people are very crafty; they will start by building a house on our piece of land without following the right procedures and very soon they may begin to invite their brothers to come and build there too. With this trend, the whole area may soon be occupied by the Chomba people and they may start claiming rights to our land. This is how it all starts and if we don’t stop it now it may soon degenerate into something else”.
However, negotiations have been open by the Division Officer of Bamenda 2 municipality to adequately solve the matter.

The government delegate for the Douala city council Dr. Fritz Ntone Ntone has reacted angrily to the strike action for health insurance and other social benefits that took place at the municipal council on Monday 10 April 2017. All eleven council workers who led the strike were yesterday suspended from duty.
According to the annoyed Government Delegate, the strike leaders were grossly insubordinate as they refused to attend the meeting convened by the government delegate and preferred to attend that of the Senior Divisional Officer convened at the same time.
Arriving at the council premises Tuesday morning, the eleven personnel were not able to work because their offices were padlocked.
“Mr. Delegate made us to know that he will be sending us convocations for a meeting but we did not see any convocation from his part. As a result, we went to the SDO and discussed with him and we were satisfied” Explains a suspended worker. “We were astonished when we received messages that the Delegate has suspended 11 striking workers because of insubordination” he adds.
The Senior Divisional Officer has at now not released any official statement on the matter but Fritz Ntone Ntone on his part still remains adamant on his decision.

The old wouri bridge which was constructed during the colonial period almost 70 years today, may soon become a pubic danger to the Douala community.
According pedestrians the bridge which links Bonaberi to Deido, and which has been of great economic importance to Cameroon, carrying auto, trucks, bikes and train traffic is becoming risky to use as days go by.
Mr Tanchieu Kouatchoua Michelle who lives in Bonaberi and works as a security guard at Deido recounts his experiences on the bridge everyday as he walks to and from Deido.
“When I am walking on the bridge I get really scared especially when the big trucks run across. The shaking of the bridge becomes really frightening. These quavers are unnoticeable when crossing in a vehicle. I want to encourage Cameroonians to stop at some point at the Bridge and experience this so that they can understand the severity of this. SOGEA SATOM should work and make the new bridge usable as fast as possible before the situation worsens” says Mr Tanchieu.
Many road users are anxiously waiting for the new Wouri Bridge which was marked at 84% completion this January to be finally completed.
A Commercial Bike rider says “I am impatiently waiting for this project to be completed because we suffer lots of traffic on the present bridge which has proven to be small to accommodate the the tens of thousands of vehicles that use it on daily basis”.

A young private car driver seemingly out for revenge, yesterday Sunday 09 April 2017 successively ran down two motor bike riders along the Nyalla-Ndokoti stretch of road.
The first assault happened around the Nyalla neighbourhood when he hit a motorbike rider from behind, leaving him in a critical state before continuing to Tunnel Ndokoti where he again attacked the second victim in a head-on collision before finally evaporating into thin air.
Reports say the two Bike Riders, all in critical conditions where rushed to a nearby hospital in Logbaba where they are currently receiving medical attention.
An eye witness says the driver was seemingly out for revenge for something unjust that must have happened to him in the past.
“The way I saw the car speeding off, I suspected that the owner could have been out to payback something bad that a bike rider did to him some time before” says the eye witness.
Although there are many speculations on the motives of the actions, many have condemned such behaviour and called on the forces of law and order to open an investigation to track down the culprit.
“So long as the culprit is at large, road users are not safe. Nobody knows when next he is going to hit” says an onlooker.
