The death of two ‘sex workers’ in Douala has shaken the entire community in recent days. The two ladies were reportedly murdered by a member of the Rapid Intervention Brigade (BIR) at a junction called Carrefour Nelson Mandela.
This has provoked serious reactions from the powers that be.
The deputy Sub-divisional Officer (who doubles as the interim Sub-divisional Officer) of Douala 3eme has launched an investigation into the murder of the two women.
One of the ladies is reportedly the sister of Monique Koumateke(the lady who was operated upon after death to remove dead twins from the stomach by a sister who knew nothing about surgery. That was after she had been declared dead at Laquintinie in Douala in 2016.)
Mr Dimbélé Boui Eugène has also ordered the closure of several drinking spots in the locality as part of measures r to oblige them to obey the rules governing their activity.
During a tour of the neighbourhood on the night of April 28, 2017, Mr Boui also had some sixty or so persons arrested and detained at the Nylon and Bakoko brigades.
Speaking at a press conference, he underscored the need for more fraternity, especially at a crucial moment like this: “We are about to celebrate national unity, and we are praying that the celebrations are done in peace and serenity. Besides, the late closing time of these structures increases noise pollution and nocturnal uproars which perturb our children from revising their lessons properly,” he declared.
Adding that, “ we will multiply such operations to enable our people sleep peacefully.” he ended.

The Rapid Intervention Battalion code named BIR runs amok. They have been murdering citizens in cold blood like vermin. Yet the silence on the part of the state is shocking and worrisome. Their quest for cozy moments with queens of the night is alarming. About a year ago in Wum, Menchum Division, a similar scenario occurred and the life of young Biker was violently taken by an element of BIR through stabbing with the knife.
On the 27th of April,2017,two young women were brutally killed by another murderer in the name of defence force.
This incident took place in Douala 3 in a Hotel where the soldier stabbed the supposed girl friend in their room after a scuffle. This soldier stabbed and killed the young woman and her dieing screaming attracted another young pregnant woman, who equally was stabbed as well.
After the death of the pregnant woman, a wave of intervention in came in to help separate the foetus from her stomach which was successfully done.Kudos to the rapid deployment of medical personnel, elements of the judiciary headed by the state Council. No body has heard any statement from the military or from the state.
Soldiers are trained to protect people and their property but in Cameroon, they are the citizens masters and can rape, maim and kill without being arrested and jailed for their crimes.
It is said and history holds it that no army has ever won any war against the population.
Those who have dared have fallen in the wrong side of history and given the humiliation of their lives. The French revolution which orchestrated the very foundation of modern France was sparked off by a popular revolt, that saw the overwhelming and resounding defeat of the French soldiers who were on the side of King Napoleon Bonaparte and his royal court.
The recent sprite of violence, intimidation, kidnapping, maiming, killing and brutalization by the soldiers in the Southern Cameroons have not made matters better. Every passing day the people they have been rough handling get bolder and more radicalized. This band of rude and mean fellows called the Rapid Intervention Battalion Should be called to order by those who control them.
The havoc they have caused the erstwhile southern Cameroonians is unimaginable and heart breaking. Arbitrary arrests, molestation, random shorting to death as if for sports and destruction of evidence. They have been assigned to crack down activist and steam the tide of revolution and rebellion. The Rapid Intervention Battalion code named BIR have surely misconstrued and misunderstood their mission to the Southern Cameroon.

Workers in Cameroon are observing the International Labour Day also known as May Day. Reflecting on the theme, “Social Dialogue Economic growth and National Cohesion”, stakeholders are looking at ways to maintain good relations between employers and their employees in a bid to sustain peace in the workplace and society as a whole.
Paradoxically, there appear to be an upsurge in tensions between employers and employees in the country since last year resulting in growing mistrust between both parties. Most workers told Camcord that employers who have formed an unholy alliance with government have continuously placed them in servitude. Most of them lack health insurance, social insurance, retirement benefits and other dues. The minimum package remains dismal and some jobs do not have collective conventions. Even those that have these regulations have not fully reaped from them due to bureaucratic bottlenecks and inertia.
Unemployment according to the National Employment Fund stands over 4.5% while underemployment is growing in leaps and bounds. Attempts by workers to demand for their rights have been embraced with brutal force from employers and the government. Harmonization of the retirement age remains practically utopic as some people retire at 55, others at 60, another segment at 65 while some do not even have plans of going on a deserved rest.
Critics also lament that Staff representatives and trade unions who ought to defend workers have become partisan taking sides with the government for personal gains. While workers are abusively sacked when they rise to ask for their dues.
Social dialogue in Cameroon have lost its place in the country they cry out despite international conventions signed by the government . The new ongoing episode of the Anglophone crisis bears testimony to the absence of this important Labour instrument. Anglophone lawyers who took to the streets peacefully in October 2016 to demand for judicial reforms but were met with brutality from security forces. When Anglophone teachers joined the caravan it exploded in a full blown conflagration. Government officials who had remained indifferent to the plight of these corps sluggishly came to their senses. In the economic capital Douala, news of protests abound daily in a city where more than half of the working continue to suffer injustices.
Sadly Labour day in Cameroon has been reduced to merriment sidelining concrete dialogue amongst conflicting parties.
Government however says she is doing her best to ensure the respect of collective conventions, universal health insurance , reforms over the retirement age and decent work in general. But most of these policies have only ended on paper.
As Cameroon's Labour woes continue, all eyes are turning towards government to see to it that Labour laws are respected so that decent work will be the rule and not the exception as is the case.

The population of the Mabanda neighbourhood in Douala was startled yesterday as one of theirs was rushed to a nearby hospital after acid was poured on her face by her sugar daddy’s wife.
Reports say the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday morning when 39 years old Ernestine, wife of the man in question paid an unannounced visit to the young girl by name Miriam; the girl she had been getting rumors that she was having a hush-hush affair with her husband.
After a fiery quarrel with Miriam, eye witnesses say Ernestine removed a container from her hand bag and splashed the content on Miriam’s face.
An angry inhabitant of Mabanda has expressed bitterness about the issue and warned against married men dating outside.
“This is Wicked that woman needs to be locked up she has no right to hurt another woman, come to think of it she should have done this to her husband’s face. Some men are liars; they can't tell the truth. Only God knows what that devil of a husband told the innocent girl. I think husbands should stay with their wives and stop chasing girls and luring them into temptation “says an angry young girl.
According to a married woman, Miriam deserves what happened to her. She says, Miriam has just paid the price.
“Pulling out her one eye would have been the best example to teach other young girls who chose to date married men. It hurts to know that your husband is cheating on you” says a mad married woman.
At the moment the whereabouts of Ernestine is yet to be known meanwhile sources say Miriam is positively responding to treatment.
