An explosion of a gas bottle around the Hospital Roundabout in the Northwest Regional capital Bamenda, in the early hours of September 14, manipulated by some youths, send some police officers into hiding.
Hospital Roundabout Bamenda is one of the neighbourhoods in the volatile Region that is flooded by military officers since the escalation of the Anglophone Crisis.
In a bid to demilitarise the area even for a few hours, some teenagers manipulated a gas cylinder and caused it to explode, thus cashing-off the officers on guard.
Speaking to this reporter after the incident, one of the police officers, who was on duty that early morning said the explosion which many people thought was a bomb blast, was caused by as gas bottle.
From the investigation we carried out after several hours following the incident, we discovered that the gas bottle was manoeuvred by some young boys to scare us away,” he recounted.
The police officer said all of the boys who were part of that expensive joke were captured by one of the surveillance cameras that have been planted at the Hospital Roundabout to monitor such actions.
“The boys were later arrested and are currently helping us with our investigations,” he said.

After close to a year of uninterrupted service, clients of the internet service provider (ISP) Vodafone Cameroun, who entered the LTE market in 2016, are experiencing their first major disturbances on the network since the end of last week.
Indeed, on Friday 8 September 2017, it was impossible to connect to the Vodafone network throughout the day. “Dear client, internet service is temporarily suspended due to disturbances on the network. The technical team is working to restore the connection. Thank you for your patience”, the operator informed its clients via SMS at the end of the day.
On the following day, 9 September 2017, Vodafone Cameroun came back to announce to its clients the resumption of the connection in in the city of Douala, the economic capital of the country; the city of Yaoundé rather stayed disconnected from the network until the end of the evening.
After a break of a day and a half, disturbances restarted in the evening of 11 September, preventing thousands of clients, who rushed to this operator at the start of its activities, from accessing internet for some hours.
If some telecoms experts see these disturbances as a too quick saturation of the network, due to the success of Vodafone services since the start of its activities; others rather see them as inconveniences caused by operations to extend the service of this operator to another eight Cameroonian cities.
Indeed, after restricting its activities to only Yaoundé and Douala, for close to a year, this ISP announced, at the end of August this year, that its network is now operational in eight new cities in Cameroon. These are Bafoussam (Western region), Bamenda (North-West), Buéa, Kumba, Mutengene, Limbé (South-West), Edéa (Littoral) and Kribi (South).

The Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma Bakari, announced his newly created twitter account on 7 September 2017 at 8pm. “Good evening dear friends, I’m very happy to meet you on this forum where we can have exchanges on our beautiful nation Cameroon”, the Minister tweeted.
He had announced in 2016 that, the Head of State Paul Biya had ordered every Minister of the Republic to create accounts on social networks. Having done the announcement, its only this September that he created his own account.
Chedjou Kamdem, specialist in digital communication and administrator of the Historic site of Cameroon said “twitter is a proximate social network... being an actor of public life and the Minister of an institution which has to do with communication, it is important that he should be on twitter to exchange with people. Even though an account for the Ministry of Communication already existed, its better as the Minister now has his own account in person” he explains.
The digital specialist said this move is one which should be warmly welcomed by journalists because, they will now have the opportunity to chat with the Minister about crucial issues which he usually only discusses during his conferences.
