In the words of Rev. Father Sebastian Fonsah it was a great day, a red letter day, a day to remember as the mother of our Chairman and CEO, Mama Bridget Njaringi Agbaw-Ebai celebrated 75 years of existence in this world of ours. Welcoming the mammoth crowd at the Saint Joseph Cathedral in Mamfe, Rev. Fonsah observed that the Eucharistic celebration was a thanksgiving to God for the life of Mama Njaringi during these 75 years. The man of God said birthdays, anniversaries and jubilees are opportunities given to us to offer thanks to God. Rev. Father Fonsah further hinted that we are called to know that we can all walk this path if we walk with God.
For his part, the Chairman and CEO of Cameroon Concord group, the Right Hon. Soter Tarh Agbaw-Ebai in a soul-searching speech revealed that his mother have been a tough woman and a woman of substance, taking charge of the family during difficult times; in rain and sunshine. With Saint Paul our Chairman added "I can say that my mother has fought a good fight and run the race and she is now waiting for the prize prepared for all who have done God's Will."
Mama Briget Njaringi Agbaw-Ebai was born in 1941. She received baptism on the 14th of December 1953. This ritual was followed by her first Holy Communion on the 15th of December 1953. Mama confirmed as a Roman Catholic on the 3rd of December 1957 and got married to the late Maurice Pius Agbaw-Ebai on the 17th of February 1962. She remained a Catholic teacher until retirement because she considered teaching as a vocation not a career. Mama Briget Njaringi Agbaw-Ebai has been blessed with 8 children with two now of blessed memory.
We of this publication wish her many more years, good health and may she see her children's children to a happy Jerusalem.

Three corpses were discovered on January 5, 2016, in different neighbourhoods of Douala. The first was that of an unidentified man aged about 40 years. The corpse was discovered at 7 am not far from Government Bilingual High School, Nyalla. It had wounds suspected to have been inflicted by a machete. It is thought that the man was attacked, robbed and beaten up with a sharp object before he died. His remains were left at the Laquintinie Hospital Mortuary.
The second corpse, that of Chemeza Corentine, was discovered in her brother’s home in the Mbangue neighbourhood at 11 am. The 38-year-old topographer is suspected to have committed suicide by setting herself ablaze as a bottle of fuel was found beside her roasted body. After investigations, the body was handed over to the family for burial.
The last corpse was discovered at 12 noon at Bonaloka. The body of 40-year-old Papaya, which was discovered with traces of violence, was taken to the Laquintinie Hospital Mortuary. The Judicial Police have opened investigations.

Heavy deployment by gendarmes on the country’s highways during the recent Christmas and New Year travel largely paid off as there were fewer accidents, compared to previous years. Speaking to reporters in Ngoung, about 120 km from Yaounde, on the Yaounde-Douala highway during a road safety exercise on January 9, 2016, Col. Zacharie Fossi from the National Gendarmerie headquarters, said gendarmes worked round the clock, thereby dissuading many potential erring motorists. “As a result, there were also fewer highway offences, though over-speeding remained the most recurrent.
Since the start of 2016, the momentum has been maintained,” Col. Fossi pointed out. He attributed recent cases of road accidents on the Yaounde-Bafoussam highway to the degraded state of most sections of the road. “Some people think that because they drive big vehicles, they must necessarily over-speed. This should not be the case as speed restrictions apply to everyone,” the Colonel explained. On the other hand, ace Makossa artiste, Grace Decca, who was travelling from Yaounde to Douala, stopped by at the Ngoung Checkpoint to congratulate gendarmes for doing a good job. She also noted that road safety campaigns have over the years helped in reducing the number of deaths from highway accidents.
“Each time I travel, I am sure of getting to my destination safely because gendarmes are on the highways keeping watch. I respect the rules by always fastening my seat belt and acquiring all what is needed. The checks and searches might at times be uncomfortable, but are necessary to ensure safety,” Grace Decca told reporters. Last weekend’s road safety campaign saw the search of passengers and luggage with metal detectors and check of vehicle particulars. Erring motorists were booked and asked to pay corresponding fines. Those who could not, gave statements and their matter referred to the State Counsel at Eseka in Nyong and Kelle Division for action.

The regional section of the Criminal Investigations Department for the Central region, in Yaoundé, has just dismantled a network of conmen who were using the social networking tool Facebook for their criminal activities. These are 5 young people (one of them a prisoner operating from the Kondengui penitentiary in the capital), out of which two are still on the run.
By creating fake profiles supposedly belonging to Ministers and other managing directors on Facebook, the police explained, the members of this network were sending friend requests to citizens, who obviously accepted them, happy to have a Minister or MD as a “friend” on Facebook.
Having thus established contact, the conmen hiding behind the fake Ministers and MD profiles then offered to put their “friends” in touch with their private secretary to help them get jobs, professional attachments or public contracts.
The private secretary who was available only through his mobile telephone, and who was in reality an inmate of the Kondengui central prison, would then request a bribe that was exclusively handled through money transfers in the name of an accomplice who pretended to be the assistant of the MD or the Minister.
Once the money was received, the members of the criminal network would then share it amongst themselves and pick another victim to continue their illegal enterprise. Due to all the complaints lodged by citizens who fell prey to this network, the case was referred to the police who investigated, leading to the dismantling of this technologically-aware network of fraudsters.
